Small vs. Large Cruise Ships: Which is Better?

Not all cruise ships are built the same. Each class of ship has its own unique set of on deck plans and activities as well as comparing a variety of bands. So how do you know which is the right ship for your vacation?

Let’s talk smaller ships first. Smaller ships tend to be a bit older by nature but can I promise you won’t be disappointed if you choose to sail on a smaller ship. Here are just a few reasons why!

Smaller boats also mean less people on the ship. The smaller ships have less overall decks normally which can be less confusing. Don’t worry there is still a lot of fun to be had! With slides, pools, spas, mini golf, kids clubs, shows and more. Maybe you are looking for a cruise that is going to a lot of ports, so the ship is just your transportation to some fun places. Smaller ships also can come with a cheaper price tag. If you have a tighter budget then a smaller ship might be worth looking at.

Now for larger ships. The trend for the bigger, the better has come with some very large cruise ships being built recently. There are all kinds of neat things being put on cruise ships recently: roller coasters, rock climbing, ice skating, skydiving simulators, and zip lines but not all ships are built the same. If you are looking for a special item be sure to check your deck plans.

The newest ships can come at a higher price than some of the smaller ships so best pro tip is book as early as you can for the best prices. Larger ships more decks which means more staterooms and more guests. They tend to have a wider variety of state rooms to choose from which can be more accommodating.

In the end there are advantages to both small or large ships. I highly recommend exploring deck plans to see if the cruise you are looking at has the right on board activities for your cruising style.
