Major Change Coming to Disney’s Star Wars Rise of the Resistance

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge – the Star Wars land within Walt Disney World – is one of the most impressive and immersive experiences at Disney World. The theming is incredible and once you cross over from Toy Story Land or go through the tunnel from the main Hollywood Studios park you will feel like you’ve been transported right to Tatooine. If you haven’t visited Galaxy’s Edge, I highly recommend you do.

But what really keeps people coming back is one of Disney’s most popular rides – Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. Since it’s opening in 2019, Rise of the Resistance has used a virtual queue which allows you to get in line virtually, visit other rides, attractions, shows, or shops, and actually get in line when your boarding group is called. Well, that assumes you’re able to get a boarding group.

Each time we’ve tried to ride, we have pulled out multiple phones, counting down with the world clock online, and frantically refreshing the app right at 7:00AM and/or 1:00PM just to try to get a boarding group. Within seconds all the boarding groups are snatched up. So the slightest delay, and you’re out of luck.

But starting next week, Disney is officially getting rid of boarding groups for Rise of the Resistance! Now, anyone who wants to ride can head over to the Black Spire Outpost and hop in line. Just get there early or be prepared to wait 1.5 or 2 hours or more. Believe me… it’s worth it.

Selfishly, I hope this pulls so many people to it that all the other ride queues are shorter. Then The Boys and I can keep testing our skills and forearm strength at Toy Story Mania. They still have false hopes that they will beat me one day….
